“At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.” That’s what the Madison-based Freedom from Religion Foundation put up this holiday season in the marble hallways of the State Capitol in Olympia, Washington between the Senate and House chambers. The placard stands next to a giant xmas tree (a pagan symbol that has become associated with the Christian holiday) and a traditional nativity scene. This gesture symbolizes the very controversial topic of religion's role in the U.S. Joshua Johnson Reports. On November 22, 2008, YouTubers the world over gathered with video cameras in hand in San Francisco, CA for the first ever YouTube sponsored community gathering.
YouTube Communities across the globe have been meeting one another "in the flesh" for a couple of years now, but never has there been a gathering like YouTube Live! Seattle's own Bridget O’Neill, known on YouTube as Lilylulay, was invited to attend this once in a lifetime experience.
Featuring top musical artists such as Akon, Katy Perry, Will I Am, and YouTube Celebrities Esmee Denters, Michael Buckely from WHATTHEBUCKSHOW, LisaNova, and WilliamSledd, YouTube Live proved to be much more than a live concert.
Part reunion, part concert and part variety show, thousands took to the San Francisco’s Herbst Pavilion to see and be seen at the event. And for the over 150,000 folks who couldn’t make it in person, they tuned in to YouTube.com/Live to watch it as it unfolded for a full 90 minutes of pure YouTube awesomeness!
